Mission Statement
Conceptualised in 2019 and brought to life in 2021, The 27th Collective is an artistic co-operative based in London, England, with aims to champion creative voices from marginalised and underrepresented groups.

We, at The 27th Collective, believe that the exhibition of art is far too often reserved for the voices of a privileged elite; (upper-class, white, heterosexual, able-bodied, cis-gendered males.) As such, we hope to give the opportunity to people who do not fit within these strict boundaries to have their art work displayed and celebrated, as we believe that everyone’s art deserves to be seen, especially those who might not have advantages, such as financial support, to exhibit or promote their work themselves.

With members spanning many regions of the United Kingdom, The 27th Collective prides itself on being a group with diverse voices from all walks of life, yet there are a few key defining features that unite all of the artists within our group. We are, in a few words: confident, creative, subversive, liberal, esoteric, queer, radical and passionate. If some or any of these words describe you, then you might be an ideal member!

There is an annual fee of £10 per person. If the artist is operating from a financially disadvantaged position, we are willing to set up payment plans over a selected period of time for the artist to pay for their membership.

What to expect from us
This year, The 27th Collective will be featuring an End of year December showcase at a venue in Greater London featuring amazingly talented artists from several regions in the U.K. The theme for this years exhibition will be Rebirth and Reminiscence. The exhibition will be held on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of December at the AMP Gallery, 1 Acorn Parade, Peckham, SE15 2TZ
That being said, no matter what, you can expect an exhibition full of wonderfully fun, moving, powerful and subversive art from a number of our talented members.

she/they
A founding Member and ‘Head of Crafted Arts; including Painting, Drawing and Sculpting’, Donnie O’Shaughnessy Mitchell is a 22 year old artist and writer, who is avidly devoted to her role within The 27th Collective.
She has received special recognition in her hometown of London for her short film; Arkansas Black and was also awarded ‘Best Special Effects Make-up’ for her contributions to her film Wake Up while studying at university in Aberystwyth, Wales, where she lived for four years.
As a staunch feminist who is also a queer person of colour, Donnie’s artistic work is often radically political, with focuses on the female body, sexuality and studies of culture. She works with film, painting and drawing primarily, though she often mixes these media to create a multifaceted experience within her artwork which appeals to all the senses. Her favourite artists include Francisco Goya and Maya Deren.
Her art and budding writing career can be found on her social media @donnieomitchell on Instagram and Twitter.

Twyla Brown
she/they
A founding member of the 27th Collective and head of performance and theatre arts, Twyla produces her art through multiple media including but not limited to writing, photography and fiber art, though chiefly through performance.
She lived and trained in Plymouth and after earning a degree in acting from Plymouth Conservatoire, has since moved to Portsmouth where she currently works in interactive theatre. A highlight of her acting career so far has been working with the Plymouth based theatre company PLZ on the show "The PoZession" where she played the character Lana.
Last year, Twyla also opened her small business; The Motherhooker crochet, where she sells her fiber art. Twyla's interaction with the crochet community has also inspired her in the writing of her latest play (one of about a million), a comedic account of the true dramas that occur within the community.

Some of Twyla's artistic inspirations include Nan Goldin, Martin Leman, Helen Mirren, Toni Collette, Olivia Coleman, Dawn French, Artemisia Gentileschi and Regina Spektor. Her favourite plays include It's True, It's True, It's True by Breach Theatre and Woyzeck by Georg Büchner.

Twyla is an avid feminist and trans rights activist. She hopes to have fun creating meaningful and expressive work that embodies her views and both entertains and provokes thought in her audiences.
